Discover Fiji’s Unique Flora

Fiji is included in the Micronesia-Polynesia biodiversity hotspot – considered to be one of the most threatened of earth’s 34 biodiversity hotspots – and many Fijian plant species are unique.

Saving Soga

The majestic Fijian sago palm (Metroxylon vitiense) or soga, pronounced songa in Fijian, is an endangered palm unique to Fiji. Savurua is dedicated to conserving one of the few remaining pristine native stands of soga.

Research & Conservation

Savurua Botanical Gardens is 100% committed to conserving Fijian plant species especially endangered endemic trees. We are working with Fijian communities, NGOs and Government Departments to address knowledge gaps, undertake research in areas and conserve endangered plant species/populations.

Wildlife

Savurua Botanical Gardens is a mecca for endemic Fijian forest birds. Given our proximity and ready access from Suva, we are proudly turning Savurua into a magnet for international birdwatchers.

Visitors

For the moment, Savurua’s lush, tropical landscape is only recommended for experienced bush walkers.

Our team is busy developing defined and marked tracks, as well as more facilities.
